Wow. That's pretty much all I can say about the amount of people that took the time to vote for their favourite couple in the Flaunt Your Rock Contest.  The time has come though to announce the winner of the free engagement session!  Before we get to that though I would like to thank all those that entered the contest, especially the three finalists - and would like to extend a $100.00 credit to the two runner up couples for an engagement session booked in next 2 months.

So without further delay the winners of the Flaunt Your Rock Contest are Cat and Colin!  Congratulations and I am looking forward to working with you on your engagement session!  Here's the shots of them that helped them win the contest!

XOXO

Well I just couldn't wait to post the images from yesterday that I was up for a good part of the night creating a slideshow!  Before I post it I am going to fill you in on just what the title of this blog post means!

Everyone that knows me knows I am a Nikon Girl.  I've shot with Nikon for the last few years and have had a lot of great success with it.  I mean, its gotten me where I am today, so how can I not give it some of the credit.  Lately though I've been noticing a change in my thinking.  I've always been attracted to a certain few photographers - and the more that I stalk, umm I mean read, their blogs I've noticed they've all got a certain style of photos that really attracts me to their work.  Funny to find out that they all shoot Canon.  Figures.  So instead of doing the "Leslie" thing to do and go out and buy a new camera and lens without even testing it out - it was suggested that I rent a body and a few lenses and check out if a Canon was really for me.  So that's what I do - I rented a Canon Mark 2 and an 50 1.2 and a 85 1.2.  I couldn't wait for it to arrive and it did Thursday night.   I'll admit at first it was really intimidating - the dials and controls are really different - but the smaller body felt really good in my hands.  It didn't take long for me to figure out where the main buttons were to get me going.

The first thing I did was check out the video features.  I am by no means a videographer - nor do I want to be - but I love the spark that clips of video can bring to a slideshow - and boy is this video amazing!  Its so true to life its scary - must be the HD - but still I instantly chalked a mark on the board for the Canon.  I've still got a looong way to go before I can say I'm at least decent at video - but its definitely going to be a fun venture.

The next thing to do was to check out the main purpose of the camera and that was shooting stills.  I was a little wary about it - because I've been told that although Canon is a great hybrid camera - Nikon was still miles ahead in the stills department.  They've got amazing low light - and great autofocusing something that the Mark 2 is still lacking.  However I wanted to be unbiased - and since i normally shoot in natural light I figured I'd get out and shoot.  I found a great couple and we went to work.  The first thing I noticed is that even after the first image - I really liked what I seen at the back of the camera.  THIS was the look I was going for.  It might not be for everyone - but I am more convinced with every frame that I might be falling in love for the second time.  *fingers crossed* that a new Mark 3 comes out this fall - but in the mean time I'm going to keep shooting to see if I am going to make the plunge to The Dark Side .... or The Light Side - I'm not sure which one Canon is referred to!

So all my babbling out of the way - Here is the slideshow from Jasmine and Brad's session yesterday!  They were great to work with - and I'm happy to say Jasmine is my husband's cousin and such a sweetheart!  I hope everyone enjoys it and I would love to hear your feedback below on how you think my first venture out with a Canon turned out.

XOXO

Wow I can't believe all of the comments on the Flaunt Your Rock Contest!  Its great to see so many people voting!  There is still a week left of voting so if you haven't voted yet be sure to help one of the couples out - things are pretty close and even a few votes might end up making the difference!

Most of you may not know but last week was the biggest photographer's convention, WPPI, in Vegas - and I'm kicking myself for not going.  Not only was there a ton of killer workshops like Mike Colon's Seven Workshop, and Nate and Jaclyn Kasier,'s The ShootShop Workshop, there was a HUGE trade show with tons of vendors.  I faithfully followed all of the twitter updates from all of my photographer friends hoping to get a glimpse of what's to come - and luckily they all pulled through!  I've got a ton of ideas going through my head of new products to offer, and services to try!  Stay tuned for all the juicy details!

Another thing I missed out on in Vegas was networking.  There were over 15,000, Yes 15,000!, wedding and portrait photographers attending the WPPI conference.  A ton of the people I have the upmost amount of respect for were there - and I so wanted to go to meet them.  I am marking off the dates next year already - as I really believe a conference like this can bring my work to another level.

Which brings me to the reasoning behind this post.  I'm offering a sale!  Its not something I do very often - but I've been inspired via reading all the twitter and blog posts from WPPI I wanted to give something back to all of my blog readers.  So here it goes!

Sale on all Engagement & Couple Sessions

Includes:

1 hour on-location session

Online Gallery with at least 25 fully edited images

Online Slideshow set to music

Low & High-Resolution files of all of the Gallery images

This package normally totals $1200.  If booked before March 20th for sessions scheduled in March & April I will give couples 50% off the package price.  Thats $1200 worth of product for $600!  I will only be taking a limited number of sessions (12) so please inquire as soon as possible to book your spot!

Not engaged or already married?  A good friend of mine reminded me how important it is to document your life together - and not just at the "big" moments in your life.  You'll see in some upcoming posts that alot of my clients are coming for either repeat sessions after their wedding, or even when they are in the early stages of dating!  Photo sessions are what you make of it - and trust me its going to be beautiful and a ton of fun!

Now because every post deserves a photo - here is one I took today of a couple that is just *too* cute!  They were helping me test out a camera I had rented and I think that I just may be getting myself into some trouble!
