Wow! It has been a while since I blogged something! After posting my last two sessions before the New Year, I wanted to take some time to let all my loyal blog followers know a little bit of what is going on in my life lately. It has been B-U-S-Y but I am not complaining - I have a lot of things to be thankful for this holiday season.
First and foremost is my family. Its been a really busy year for us - my brother married his amazing wife Jenn, my dad retired after over 25 years to his home in Newfoundland, and I spent an amazing month exploring Europe with my husband Troy.
Second on the list, was having the opportunity to capture images of so many amazing clients! Photography is my biggest passion - and without all these people having so much trust in me it would not be possible for me to have come so far in such a short amount of time. Although I am cutting back on some of my sessions in the New Year, I am super excited for what 2010 is going to bring. I may be taking a month off in January - but February is going to be full speed ahead. With a Boudoir Marathon planned (check back for details!), several engagement sessions booked, and prepping for some tradeshows and conferences, I cannot wait to get started.
Third on the list (still to do with my photography), was meeting so many amazing photographers. I may not have had the chance to meet a lot of them in person, but the internet has been my best friend over the last year. I was able to network with so many people that inspire me so much. I cannot wait to get a chance to meet them in person in the next few years. First on the list is a workshop with the legendary Jerry Ghionis from Australia. I have been looking forward to attending one of his workshops since being introduced to his work a few years ago. I know this will totally rock my photography and I cannot wait to share it with all of my upcoming brides.
Before I go, I wanted to let everyone know that I have got my first ad out in Wedding Bells Magazine! It was totally a last minute decision but I am super excited about it! One of my personal goals for 2010 to is to submit a full wedding feature for the Spring/Summer 2011 edition of Wedding Bells. Also be sure to check out Hot Pink Brides and Wedding Obsession, two amazing blogs that I have been featured on lately!
I am also quickly booking up on the wedding front, which I am super excited about. Currently all of my weddings are out of town and I would love the chance to shoot some weddings right here in Fort McMurray! Which brings me to my latest promotion.

XOXO
I want to start this post by first thanking each and every one of my clients, blog and website followers for supporting me while I pursued one of my biggest dreams. Over the last two years I have tried so many different genres of photography - I made it a point to try everything I could just to get the experience. I have never made it a secret that my primary passion was for Wedding Photography - but I am a firm believer that all experience helps to push you forward.
When I first started out in photography I attended a great workshop by the amazing Jesh de Rox. We spent three days with him in his home in Edmonton - and during one of my mentor sessions he explained something that has really stuck with me. He would rather have 1 client out of 10 "love" his work. I mean really love his work - than 7 clients "like" his work. This 1 client would tell everyone about him - their family, their friends, even their co-workers and in doing this they were helping him to grow into an amazing photographer. I know you are probably wondering where this is going - but over the last few months I have done a lot of thinking on where I would like my business to go. I have decided that it is time to start specializing in the few instead of the many. I want to be a great photographer - and while I think things are coming together at a faster pace than I ever could have imagined - I feel that by doing a bit of everything I am short changing all of my sessions. Many of the photographers that inspire me the most focus on only a few areas of photography - Bob Davis, Jasmine Star, Carrie Sandoval, Jerry Ghionis, even my closest mentors Dave and Quin Cheung. This has allowed each of them to become amazing at what they do - truly improving with every shot. This is my goal - I want to put every ounce of passion I have into creating truly breathtaking images.
As of December 1st I am going to be taking a month off to spend some time with my family. Following that for the 2010 season I will be focusing on just a few types of sessions. While a limited number of family and newborn sessions will be taken for 2010 - priority will be given to weddings, engagements, trash-the-dress, and boudoir sessions. I already have a few weddings scheduled for next year - so please contact me if you are interested in chatting about your wedding photography needs.
This decision was not easy to make as a lot of my favourite recent sessions were with families and newborns and they definitely are not gone for good. Please stay tuned for all the great things that are happening for Leslie Brown Photography in the new year. I've got alot of new ideas I want to get started on - and there are a few seminars that I can't wait to attend.
I want to again thank each and every client I have had for helping me get to where I am today. Without you I wouldn't be here - and for that I am so thankful! I would love to hear any comments and feedback as I start this new chapter in my life - and I hope that everyone supports me while I chase my dreams!
And because all posts are better with two images - here is one I took while vacationing this summer in Europe! It was in Santorini, Greece one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
XOXO
This is a great post Leslie. You are truly amazing at all that you do but it makes complete sense to follow your heart. Not only will your clients get the most out of their experiences with you but you will get more out of your passion if you are where you want to be. I wish you all the best and can't wait to see what 2010 brings for you!! I consider you one of my inspirations. :)
